Checking Spelling

Open Options > Settings > Spelling to select a spell checker and to set options.

To run the spell checker select one of these commands:

Select Tools > Spell Check to process the active document or Tools > Spell Check All to process all open documents.
Select Tools > Mark Spelling Errors to toggle the display of misspellings. Right-click a highlighted word and select Spelling to see the options list.

Microsoft Office spell checker options

The English language version of the Microsoft Office 2000 CSAPI spell checker cannot be run from HomeSite. The non-English spell checker dictionaries in Office 2000 are supported, however.

To use the Microsoft Office spell checker, you must have one of theses products installed on your system: Access 97, Excel 97, Exchange Server 5.0, Office 97, Office 2000 (non-English dictionaries only), Project 98, Publisher 98, Visual FoxPro 5.0/6.0, Visual Studio 6.0, Word 7.0/97, Powerpoint 97, Works 4.0/95.

The spell checker settings you make in Microsoft products are not used by HomeSite.

If the Microsoft Office spell checker is enabled, you can optionally select from the drop-down list of available languages.

Integrated spell checker options

An English language and an HTML dictionary are installed with HomeSite. Allaire recommends enabling the HTML dictionary for spell checking HTML tag contents in documents.

Additional language and specialty dictionaries can used with this spell checker. You can download these dictionary files from the Visual Tools/Language Dictionaries section of the Developer's Exchange on the Allaire Web site. After download, add the DCT files to the Spelling folder, restart HomeSite, and select them in the Dictionaries list.

Additional options

These settings are available for either spell checker.

Skip tags when checking spelling -- Limits checking to text not enclosed in tag brackets.
Perform OEM conversion -- This setting ensures the correct identification of non-US characters on Windows systems using non-ANSI code pages, such as non-US keyboards with alternate character sets. This option is automatically enabled when the integrated spell checker is selected and disabled for the Microsoft Office option.
